A Horrific Destination, Kal-e Jeni Canyon
Always the mysteries and wonders of nature attract human beings to themselves. Follow us, we are going to Kal-e Jeni region Tabas County, South Khorasan Province.
Kal-e Jeniorthe valley of fairies is a canyon located in Azmighan Village, northern Tabas County, South Khorasan Province, along turnout of a Qanat located nearby Mysterious land, a silent valley, with cool and nice weather at heart of scorching hot land that affects of life in there at least dates back to Sassanid Empire Era (224-651 AD). A beautiful and wonderful canyon that locals call it valley of fairies.
The etymology of this region is such that it composed of two-part, Kal-Jeni. "Kal" is a term refers to canyons or paths created by floods and water flow. And due to locals' belief for the existence of fairies in this canyon the second part. "Jeni”, was added to its name. This canyon in some parts has U-shape and in some other parts has V shape. When looking up at the sky, you would just see a small part of the sky at the distance of two tall walls, and in some other parts due to closeness of two walls there would be no sign of the sky; it would be just you surrounded by rocky walls. Here is very different from its surrounding deserts. Here water is not rare and it can be found in every comer. There are small waterfalls that locals call them "Sholan”. Ponds were created and some have depth up to 5 meters and they are suitable for swimming and enjoying the cool water in scorching hot weather. Water erosion in this place is at its peak and has created strange motifs at the riverbed. After this region, the land becomes dry and arid. Water directed to a Qanat and the canyon deprived of water.
There are some holes inside the walls that attract your attention. At first sight, you may feel that these holes are made due to natural water erosion, but by attentively looking you find out that they are man-made. There is the entrance of a well at height of 2 meters from ground level, you can go inside by the help of a companion; this well has 7 to 8 meters height from its entrance, and you can go upward by using holes dug inside the body of the well. Then after the well, you reach a hall with two vestibules, each containing some rooms. All of them are man-made and were created inside of such a weird canyon. The trace of architectures' axes is still visible in its rooms. According to the opinion of Cultural Heritage Organization experts, this monument dates back to Sassanid Era and it seems used for the monotheism ritual of Chele Neshini”. Structure of Kal-e Jeni Kal-e Jeni composed of main Kal (Canyon) and a subsidiary Kal. The main Kal begins from the palm-grove and reaches to Azmighan Village Main water flow, who invites green plants to a sip of water on its way, begins from the Azmighan Spring.
This water flows through a channel and reaches to a qanat and abandon the main kal. Unique wanders and the remnants of Gabre people colonies begin here. In Azmighan village the beautiful combination of palm trees and rice fields is observable simultaneously. The natural growth of a palm-grove at heart of such arid desertis eyecatching Attractions of Kale Jeni Existence of tunnels and houses known as colonies of Gabre people inside rocky walls, which were built by Zoroastrian inhabitants, is another attraction of this canyon. Probably these colonies were date back to Sassanid Era. Holes and tunnels of these colonies located inside the rocky walls of the canyon. Accessible path to these holes is a difficult path. In the path to these holes, there are tunnels that probably used as connection roads. Access Road On the Road of Isfahan-Tabas, after passing Naein and Khor Towns, you will arrive in Tabas. Azmighan Village located at 48km northeastern Tabas. After finishing asphalt road and reaching Azmighan Village and passing 5km not paved road, you will arrive at the canyon.
There are two paths to enter the canyon. One is at the end of not paved road which is actually the beginning of the canyon, and the second is in the middle of not paved road, and you can enter the canyon through a cleavage created by the act of natural erosion. Our suggestion is the first path. There is water flow in the first path that created a green region. Naturally, growth dense palm trees and canebrake are located at the beginning of the canyon. Keep an extra set of clothes, essentially for your sudden desire to swim inside pools of the canyon, to do it without any concern and worries. Take suitable climbing shoes and shoes suitable for passing the canyon. Take are of this natural phenomena in your trip to Kal-e Jens, and by not have any trace of damages in this canyon keep local people and other visitors happy. Do not travel to this region alone and have a companion of a local guide. Canyon has very tall with high steep that can cause many dangers. To go inside the canyon you have to be familiar with the region, and even if you do not believe in fairies never go walk alone in the canyon, because there is a high possibility to get lost.
